God Gave His All -- John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”. Belief consists in doing what is commanded to receive this eternal life. The plan is fully given by the The writers of the N. T. -- faith, repentance, confession, baptism.
The purpose of this devotional is to examine the magnitude of the love God gave in giving His Son. God so loved a world that had sinned against Him. Paul declares in Rom. 5:12 “that all sinned”. Rom. 5:8 -- “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. I John 3:11 -- “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God”. I John 4:9-l0 “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: Not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins”. The word lavish means: “very generous, more than enough.” God gave His all.
We have seen a little of how great God’s love is for us, now we must respond to His love by opening our hearts in obedience, pondering His greatness and surrendering our lives to Him. In Mt. 22:37 Jesus said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”. Love God with all our heart – nothing can be withheld.
